University of Pittsburgh student dead in apparent homicide
Pittsburgh police believe the death of 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student Alina Sheykhet was not a “random act of violence,” but a homicide.
According to a Fox News report, the Russian-born student was discovered Sunday morning in an off-campus home, dead from “blunt force trauma injuries.”
“Sheykhet’s roommates originally thought she was still sleeping, but Sheykhet’s brother, Artem, 25, told KDKA-TV she was found unresponsive on the floor,” according to Fox.
Neighbors said there was a party at the residence Saturday night, but it was unclear if that played a part in Sheykhet’s death.

“Pittsburgh’s police chief said Monday that the homicide death of a University of Pittsburgh student in Oakland does not appear to be random,” according to a report from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. “‘We do not believe at this time that this was a random act of violence,’ said Chief Scott Schubert, in a released statement. ‘There is no continued threat to Oakland residents and the university communities.’”
The U. of Pitt community reacted with shock and sadness.
My heart is heavy today. The world is an unforgiving and evil place. Rest In Peace Alina and sending my prayers to the Sheykhet Family. ????????
