API in Paris, France: French Language Studies summer

With its history dating back to the end of World World War I, the Cours de Civilisation Françaises de la Sorbonne (CCFS) focuses on French language instruction and introducing students to French culture and society since 1919. More than 8,000 students, from more than 130 nationalities, attend the university annually.

Students who choose to study abroad in Paris with API in the French Language Studies Program complete a combination of French language and phonetics courses. The average class size is twenty students. A student’s French level is determined by a placement exam administered upon arrival by the CCFS.

Students may take 3 semester credits in the summer 1 or summer 2 terms, OR take up to 7 semester credits for the summer 2 term.

Intermediate and advanced level students who wish to take French civilization lectures may do so only during the summer 2 session.

  • SUMMER 1 (BEG, INT, ADV)
    • Language – 2
    • Phonetics – 1
    • Total Credits – 3
  • SUMMER 2 (BEG, INT, ADV)
    • Language – 2
    • Phonetics – 1
    • Total Credits – 3
  • BOTH SUMMER SESSIONS
    • Language – 4
    • Phonetics – 2
    • Total Credits – 6
  • SUMMER 2 (INTENSIVE OPTION)
    • Students have the option of taking up to 5-6 hours of language and 1 hour of phonetics (for a total of 7 overall semester credits) for an additional fee.
